Self Care, including mental awareness and health, is one of the best gifts a person can provide to themselves. Working in an industry where every day is a different experience and where many hats are worn, it is imperative to recognize the "mental burnout" of yourself and your peers. This course will help you to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness, including stress and anxiety. This course also will provide techniques to recognize substance abuse disorders. The conversation will be deep and provide self-help strategies to help get someone to a better mental space. Topics that will be covered include

  • Depression and Mood Disorders
  • Anxiety and Panic Attacks
  • Trauma
  • Psychosis
  • Substance Abuse

This course will also provide the opportunity to practice intervention strategies making it easier to apply the knowledge in a real-life situation. 1 in 5 people in the United States will experience or be diagnosed with a mental illness in a given year.  The effectiveness of the Mental First Aid Program has been studied and has been found that those who have studied Mental Health First Aid have greater confidence in providing help to others. Mental Health First Aid also helps reduce the stigma behind mental health illness.
